Project Safe water borehole for Baasonkorah, Upper West Region

This Xmas the Baasonkorah community of 156 who settled over 100 years ago no longer suffer from water borne diseases now that they have their own safe water borehole.

There will be no need to walk long distances to the stream/river to look and dig a sump hole, children can now go to school as they no longer have to look for water and suffer sickness. The community can now rear animals.

Existing water source

Over 1,350L of water was being collected from morning, afternoon and evening in their heavy loaded “silver basin” (usually 20 litres for young adult and 30 litres for adult). If they have visitors, they would have to fetch and pay for water from another borehole, which is six kilometres away in the community called Sanouri. But all of these are now part in their past as they now got their own safe water borehole which was denied from them for so long.

Biida Kuto- one of the elders pointed out that he thank God for the borehole and assured the donors that they will maintain it well and implement the bye-laws strictly.

Akos Kofi, one of the abled men in the community found it dificult to express his gratitude but layed down on the ground for sometime as a sign of gratefulness, for the borehole and that now they can drink clean water. He said words are not enough to express their gratitude but his action of lying down is a way for the donors to know that they are very grateful.
