Safe water borehole for Damang
Damang is a typical farming community in the Nsawam Adoagyiri Municipal in the Eastern Region of Ghana. It has population 1900. Their main source of water is a stream located at the outskirts of the community, few hand dug wells and rain harvesting. All these sources of water become scarce during dry seasons.
The community faced a severe water challenge which compels women and children to travel far away especially in the dry season in search of water for domestic purposes. The water challenge sometimes leads to the community relying on infected streams which has health implications and sometimes school children having to leave the classroom in search of water which affects their academic work.
The project could not be sited in the preferred location because of low yield. It was finally located in the Junior High School premises where the contractor experienced high yield. Women and children were deeply excited due to the challenges they went through in the past trying to get access to water for their domestic activities.
Quote from an opinion Leader; “We will not suffer from diseases because we have clean water. We will also not spend much on sachet water. We now have more time to spend in our farms and economic activities; our children can now go to school on time. We thank all who made this possible.”
